Mike was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1946. His career in the field of tax law began with a summer internship in the Trust Department at the National Bank of Detroit. Upon graduation from Michigan State University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics, he began working for Ernst & Ernst Accounting Firm in the Tax Department. After living and working in downtown Detroit during the riots, Mike and his wife Mary decided it was time to look for greener pastures. They moved south to Williamsburg, Virginia, where Mike earned his JD from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary in 1973. During law school, Mike received the Seidman &Seidman Gold Key Award in Taxation, was the Notes Editor of the Law Review, and was a member of Omicron Delta Kappa Honorary and Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. Upon graduation they moved to Rocky River, Ohio. Mike practiced with Calfee Halter & Griswold in downtown Cleveland for seven years, first as a tax associate and later as a partner of the firm. Those long winters convinced them to head south once again, and they settled in Venice in the spring of 1980 with their two sons, David and Michael. Mike was admitted to practice law in the State of Ohio in 1973, the U.S. Tax Court in 1976, the State of Florida in 1980, the U.S. Supreme Court in 1980, and the U.S. Court of Appeals - 6th Circuit in 1989. He is currently a member of the American Bar Association, The Florida Bar, the Sarasota County Bar and the Venice-Englewood Bar Association. He is an AV rated lawyer and is Board certified in Tax Law. Mike's community service has included being on the Board of Directors of Loveland School and serving as President of the Parish Council of Epiphany Cathedral, Member of the Planning Commission of the City of Venice, Member of the Board of Directors of the Pine View School Foundation, and Treasurer and Board Member of Mission Valley Golf Club. He is currently President of the Advisory Board of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Retreat Center and a Member of the Board of Directors of The Epiphany Foundation. Mike is also active in the Subchapter S Corporation Committee of the American Bar Association, and the Probate Committee of the Sarasota County Bar Association. |
